Melba Brewster – Heavenly Banners
It is all about Him! Flags and banners are tools of worship to help us to praise our Lord and delight in his presence, bringing us closer together by bringing heaven to earth. I am a worshiper who loves to dance in the Spirit. My journey making hand painted silk flags and banners began several years ago when the Lord called me to worship Him with flags. I had no painting experience and knew that I needed to find a class on silk painting. My search brought me to a conference in South Carolina, where I learned the silk painting techniques I would need to create my Holy Spirit inspired flags. It was at the conference that I met a woman who confirmed that God wanted me to start a ministry painting silks; she gave me a check to launch Heavenly Banners.
My first worship flags were the flags that I brought to church each Sunday, and as I danced with my flags, I felt as though I was dancing with God. A connection so intimate that I became lost in Him. It was through this experience that I realized that Flags and banners draw us deeper into worship and take us into a higher place as we focus on Him. The flags and banners that I paint are to honor God. They proclaim his name, his character, and remind us of his love. The flag and banner designs I create are Holy Spirit inspired. Sometimes he will ask me to paint a banner for the church or a special event and will show me the design. It is different when I am asked to create a new design by someone, sometimes it can take days of fasting and praying and many times I will get the design at the last minute but always on time. I will only paint what he shows me because it is to glorify Him and bring Him glory, and the Holy Spirit to bring Heaven to earth.
When you order your flag or banner, it will be painted in an atmosphere of worship, praise and prayer as I seek him for any changes to make it uniquely yours. The design, will always be a little different and sometimes much different than expected. Many times I see doves show up in the design form and the flow of the dyes and recently I have seen angels. One of my customers recently sent me a picture of her banner because an image of Jesus showed up in the painting. He was not part of the original flag design, so I am always excited to see what appears in the design!
