Prophetic Art as Worship

Our God is the God of all creation and communicates not just through words, but through creative beauty and artistic expression. God not only creates but reflects upon and enjoys His creations as seen in Genesis 1:31, where He made all the beauty of creation and called it “good”.

Anointed Artists Appointed to Create for His Kingdom

Unshakable – Janice VanCronkhite

God appointed and anointed craftsmen and artisans to bring beauty and glory into his house.  The bible records in Exodus 31:1-6, “See, I have called by name Bezalel, the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah.  I have filled him with the Spirit of God in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all kinds of craftsmanship, to make artistic designs for work in gold, in silver, and in bronze, and in the cutting of stones for settings, and in the carving of wood, that he may work in all kinds of craftsmanship.”

The Lord enlisted all types of artists to construct the Ark of the Covenant that contained his presence, his holy temple and the furnishings it contained, the fabrics that made up the various curtains and veils within the temple, as well as the fine garments that the Levitical priests wore.

Prophetic Art is often created during Corporate Worship

Still today, prophetic art, often created during times of congregational worship, communicates God’s “right now” messages to his people through imagery.  Visual beauty is not just a means of creative expression, but a nonverbal, universal means of communication.  Visual art transcends, language and cultural barriers and communicates to the human heart at a deep level.  Art created for beauty and to glorify God can impact us in powerful ways.

Prophetic Art Heals, Touches and Carries Messages

Prophetic art can be used to heal deep emotional wounds and allow us to gain new perspectives in the spiritual realm.  We may not be able to verbalize how we feel about a certain situation or express in words the magnificence of God, but an image can capture it.  A person who may not be open to hearing the gospel may be deeply moved by an image painted during a time of worship.
